EVALUATIONS

At DHB Therapy, we take time to understand your child's strengths and challenges, as well as your family's goals. Our occupational therapy (OT) evaluations typically include:

  • A parent interview

  • Gross motor screening

  • Clinical observations

  • Standardized assessments

After the evaluation process is complete, we will review the results with you, answer any questions you may have, and offer helpful tips and resources to support your child's growth. You know your child best, so your input is essential in creating a plan for occupational therapy!

OUR APPROACH TO THERAPY

Our occupational therapists begin each session with a gross motor activity to make sure that your child is regulated, focused, and ready to learn. Depending on your goals, occupational therapy (OT) sessions may focus on:

  • Regulating your child's sensory system

  • Independence in daily activities (e.g., dressing, bathing, eating, toileting, etc.)

  • Improving the strength and coordination of your child's motor movements

We will also provide you with tools and strategies to use with your child at home. Home programs may include visual schedules, routines, and sensory diets.

SENSORY INTEGRATION

Children with sensory challenges experience difficulty processing all of the sensations in their environment. We can help them:

  • Integrate sensory information from the world around them

  • Regulate their bodies

  • Tolerate new food textures

  • Avoid overstimulation

ACADEMIC & SCHOLASTIC SKILLS

We help school-age children develop the reading and writing skills they need to succeed in school. Our OT sessions will foster your child's:

  • Age-appropriate handwriting skills

  • Uppercase and lowercase letter formation

  • Spacing and line awareness

  • Reading skills

VISUAL SKILLS

We will support your child's visual-motor development by helping them integrate what they see with what they do. Our goal is to:

  • Improve hand-eye coordination

  • Promote visual tracking skills

  • Increase visual discrimination

  • Fine-tune their motor control

Children with limited motor skills struggle to move their bodies with precision during daily tasks. Our OT sessions will help your child:

  • Strengthen their core muscles

  • Manipulate objects in their hands

  • Hold and use their pencil, fork, and toothbrush with ease

  • Independently button, zip, snap, buckle, and tie shoelaces
